Governor Sam Brownback Announces Departure of State Bank Commissioner

Topeka- Kansas Governor Sam Brownback today announced the resignation of Bank Commissioner Deryl Schuster, effective Nov. 1, 2016. Schuster was appointed by the Governor in March, 2014.

“Deryl’s tremendous experience in banking and small business finance served him well as Bank Commissioner,” said Governor Brownback. “I appreciate his service to the citizens of Kansas and thank him for his dedication and commitment.”

Before being appointed as Bank Commissioner, Schuster had served as President and CEO of Midwest Community Bank. Schuster also spent time in Liberal at 1st National Bank.He received his bachelor’s degree from Southwestern College in Winfield.

“It has been my privilege to serve the Governor and the people of Kansas as State Bank Commissioner,” Schuster said. “I am grateful for the opportunity to work with the wonderful people in the Bank Commissioner office. They are among the finest in the nation.”

Judi Stork, the Deputy Bank Commissioner, will serve as Acting Bank Commissioner until the Governor appoints a new commissioner. This position requires Senate approval.

The State Bank Commissioner regulates all state-chartered banks and trust companies, savings and loan companies, mortgage businesses, supervised lenders and money transmitters. With the Banking Board as an advisor, the Bank Commissioner ensure the safety and soundness of state-chartered financial institutions.
