Gallegos Shatters Pancake Day Race Record

KSCB News - February 24, 2009 12:00 am

Twenty-two year old Tasha Gallegos won the International Pancake Day race in a record time of :57.5 seconds Tuesday. The former LHS and WSU track star broke a record of which was :58.1 seconds set by Lisa Spillman in 2001. Gallegos had to be on her game considering Olney’s Jane Hughes ran the race in 1:02. It was the fastest Olney time since 1998 when Natalie Thomas ran the race in :58.5. Michelle McNabb came in second place for the second time in three years edging out Jeanette Contreras who took third. Tara Bruce placed fourth and MiKayla Knudsen was fifth. Gallegos is a 2003 Liberal High School graduate. She helped Liberal win three state championships. She was an NCAA qualifier in the 400 hurdles at Wichita State.
