Former Wichita Anchor Anita Cochran to Emcee Pancake Day Talent Show

KSCB News - February 6, 2012 8:14 am

A familiar face will return to Liberal this Pancake Day, as former Wichita news anchor Anita Cochran will emcee the Feb. 20 Pancake Day Talent Show.
Cochran has covered Pancake day events many times during her broadcasting career with KSN news in Wichita, and while in Liberal she will also shoot a story for her website, www.anitacochran.tv.
After 20 years as an award-winning journalist, Cochran left the industry in 2009. She says the website is a way for her to do what she loves but still have time for family.
“ I’m ramping up my website to highlight stories I never see on the news but I think are interesting,” Cochran said. “I’m not saying they are newsworthy but they are Anita-worthy, and as a native Kansan I think most of us have similar taste.”
A graduate of Wichita State University, Cochran has “held every job in the newsroom,” including a long stint as solo anchor of KSN News in Wichita. Her awards include an Emmy for a 30-minute show about AIDS that she produced and co-hosted. The Kansas Association of Broadcasters has recognized her work for everything from Best Newscast to Best Feature. The Kansas Health Foundation statewide campaign focusing on children, “Simple Acts,” which Cochran produced, was nominated for a National Emmy for Community Service.
Since leaving TV news, Cochran, married for 25 years and mother of two daughters, “has gone through a downsizing of her material life to upsize her spiritual one,” she said. She’s taught broadcasting at Wichita State University and recently became regional coordinator for Vault Denim. In addition to her website, which will include “ fun video stories, commentary and blogging,” Cochran is also writing a book about her mid-life career change.
Fans can see Cochran, along with the 24 talent show finalist acts, at the Pancake Day Talent Show at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 20 in the James Maskus Auditorium at Liberal High School.
Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. Advance tickets may be purchased at the Tourist Information Center, One Yellow Brick Road; First National Bank in Liberal; or from talent show contestants.
