Flooding the Biggest Issue in Wednesday Night’s Storms

Heavy rain Wednesday night caused flooding throughout the area. One tornado warning was issued as rotation was suspected two miles north of Turpin. A 60 mile per hour wind gust was reported a Turpin. But flooding was the biggest issue. At 10 last night, water was flowing curb to curb on Canal Street in Hugoton and several cars were reported to have been stalled in high water at about 10 p.m. Three inches of rain was reported in Hugoton by 11 p.m.

There was flash flooding in Beaver and on Highway 270 four to five miles south of Beaver at about 11:40 p.m.. Beaver received four inches of rain. Four to six inches of water was reported over some roads. Water is in homes and businesses in Beaver, including the courthouse. Storm spotters also reported three to four inch diameter tree branches down in Beaver at about 11:08.

At 11:09, emergency management reported water over Highway 83 13 miles south of Turpin.
