Firefighters, Family, and Friends Dedicate Zac Clifton Memorial Library

KSCB News - June 2, 2011 7:30 pm

In a private, emotional ceremony, firefighters, family, and friends dedicated the Zachary Clifton Memorial Library at Liberal’s South Fire Station, on Thursday afternoon at 1:15pm. The dedication ceremony was closed to the general public, but an open house was held later that afternoon from 3:00pm – 6:00pm.

Firefighter Zachary Clifton was fatally injured in a car accident on the way to his wedding on June 2, 2006. Following this tragedy, his family graciously asked friends and family to make contributions to the Zachary Clifton Memorial Fund in care of the Liberal Fire Department. The funds were to be used to enhance firefighter safety. A library was chosen as the best way to utilize these funds so that firefighters could further educate themselves with an emphasis on safety. A new collection of over $3,984,00 of firefighting books and DVDs has been purchased and are present in the library. The library will continually be updated as new material becomes available, and donations are still being accepted in Zac’s memory. If you would like to make a contribution contact Fire Chief Kelly Kirk or Asst. Fire Chief Skeety Poulton at 620-626-0128.
