Fans Can Text “Peoples Choice” During Pancake Day Talent Show

KSCB News - February 7, 2012 8:00 pm

This year’s Pancake Day Talent show on Feb. 20 will offer a new twist—a chance for audience members to text their votes for a People’s Choice winner at the end of the show. The contestant receiving the most votes will win $200. This is in addition to other prizes to be awarded.
The texting feature will be provided and set up by United Wireless, sponsor of this year’s talent show. At the conclusion of the show, audience members will be given a number to text and can vote for their favorite act. There will be no additional charge for the text, but a person’s normal cell phone service rates will apply. Only one text per phone is allowed.
United Wireless will immediately have the votes tabulated by computer and ready to announce when the other prizes are awarded.
Liberal’s United Wireless store manager, Jennifer Malin, said the company is excited about participating in Pancake Day.
“We have been in Liberal four years and we like to be involved,” Malin said. “We are a local company based in Dodge City, not some big corporation, so any time we can help in the community, we are happy to do it.”
Talent show organizers are thrilled to have United Wireless on board as a new sponsor.
“We are grateful for their participation and excited to have something new at the talent show,” said Amy Hinkle, this year’s talent show chairman. The talent show is organized and hosted each year by the Noon Lions Club.
The talent show will begin at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 20 in the James Maskus Auditorium at Liberal High School and will feature 24 acts competing for cash prizes in four categories. In addition to the People’s Choice Award, first, second and third places will be awarded in each division. Total prize money to be awarded this year is $2,500. That includes division prizes, the People’s Choice Award, and a special $100 prize for the contestant selling the most tickets.
Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. Advance tickets may be purchased at the Tourist Information Center, One Yellow Brick Road; First National Bank in Liberal; or from talent show contestants.
