Family Dollar In Guymon Robbed, Suspect Caught

KSCB News - February 18, 2010 12:00 am

A former assistant manager of Family Dollar was arrested for burglary in the second degree on February 13.

Brandon Charles Harrison, 20, from Marlington, West Virginia, worked as the assistant manager at Family Dollar, on Highway 64, until he was terminated from the position two weeks ago.

On February 12 at around 9:45 p.m., according to a story in the Guymon Daily Herald, Guymon police officers responded to an alarm at the business. Everything looked to be clear, so the officers went on their way. Fifteen minutes later the alarm sounded again. The police and the store manager both pulled into the parking lot at around the same time. The manager opened the store for the Guymon police to take a look around, and at that time realized that a robbery had occurred.

It appears as though Harrison hid in the store while it was being closed for the night and after the employees had left, made his move. He took the deposit bag, the key bag, the safe key, an envelope, and $2958.58 in cash. He then attempted to exit through the storage room and triggered a motion detector which set off the alarm.

The next morning Lt. Arndt and Officer Hawthorne continued investigating by checking the security cameras at the business next door to the Family Dollar. On the camera quite clearly was Harrison.

Lt. Arndt and Officer Hawthorne made contact with Harrison and was able to recover all of the stolen items except for $61 of the cash. The officers took him to the Police Department for questioning where he was said to be very cooperative and admitted to the crime. Harrison was then arrested and charged with Burglary in the second degree, a felony that carries with it imprisonment for not less than two years but not more than seven. He is being held at the Texas County Detention Center on a $15,000 bond.
