Dodge City Wins Shootout Over BJ’s

KSCB News - June 8, 2011 6:49 am

It may not have been a well played game, but it sure was entertaining. The Dodge City A’s beat the Liberal Bee Jays 15-14 when Liberal’s Greg McCall doubled to left center and Dean Friedberg tried to score from first but was thrown out 8-6-2 to end the game. The teams combined for eight errors in their Jayhawk League opener.

The Bee Jays struck first with three in the first. San Diego’s Reyn Nagamine doubled home a run before Texas-Arlington’s Ryan Walker singled home two. Dodge City scored five in the second aided by three BJ errors. Two runs were unearned. But Lubbock Christian’s Richard Bohlken lined a three run homer to left to make it 6-5 BJ’s in his first game with Liberal since last year’s NBC World Series championship game. Dodge scored five unearned runs in the third to make it 10-6. A two RBI single by Yavapai’s Dean Friedberg in the fourth made it 10-8 A’s. The Bee Jays took the lead back 11-10 in the fifth when Texas-San Antonio’s Riley Good tripled with one out. He would score on a wild pitch, Then a throwing error by the catcher to the pitcher covering allowed the lead run to score. The A’s scored four in the seventh including two unearned runs after another BJ error. The BJ’s dramatically tied the game in the eighth when Riley Good hit a three run homer off the scoreboard to tie it at 14. But the A’s chased home a run in the ninth.

Liberal committed five errors and allowed 16 hits. The Bee Jays are 6-1 and 0-1 in the Jayhawk while Dodge City is 5-0 and 1-0 in the league. The BJ’s host the West Texas Outlaws Thursday night at 7 p.m. and First National Bank is the buyout sponsor. The next broadcast on Talkradio 1270 and kscbnews.net is Friday night at 7 p.m. against Derby.
