Dodge City Delays Fireworks Ban Decision

KSCB News - September 7, 2011 8:08 am

Dodge City residents who are still
waiting to shoot off fireworks will have to keep their powder dry a
little longer.
The Dodge City Commission voted Tuesday to keep the city’s
fireworks ban in place, at least for now.
The city usually lifts the ban for the Fourth of July but didn’t
this year because of fears that fireworks could cause fires in the
hot, dry conditions.
Dodge City Fire Chief Kevin Norton said the fireworks committee
recommended lifting the ban for Sept. 11 and allowing the public
two days to discharge fireworks they bought in July. But
commissioners decided Tuesday it was still too dry.
Dodge City plans to have a fireworks display Sunday as part of a
Sept. 11 event.
