Cuts Coming To Okla. SNAP Program

KSCB News - September 19, 2013 8:10 am

The Oklahoma Department of Human Services is warning Oklahomans who receive food benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program – or SNAP – that cuts are coming on November 1st.

The SNAP program was formerly known as Food Stamps and its benefits were increased in 2009 under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to help offset the recession.

The increased benefits will expire October 31st.

DHS says the effect on individual households will vary – but a family of four with no income and no other changes to their case will see a decline in monthly food benefits of $36.

A record of 628,956 Oklahomans received SNAP benefits in August.
