Convention of Delegates to Appoint Seward County District 5 Commissioner

Joe Denoyer - January 3, 2018 9:11 pm

On January 10, 2018 at 6:30 p.m., a Convention of the Seward County Republican Party will be held at 515 N Washington, Liberal, Kansas (the County Administration Building), in the county commission chambers on the second floor. The purpose of the Convention is to select a replacement county commissioner for the 5th District. Persons interested in being a candidate have to be a registered Republican resident of District 5, and must be present in person at the Convention. Nominations will be made by the District 5 Delegates. Any one Delegate can make a nomination. Interested persons may contact one of the Delegates prior to the Convention to discuss being nominated, or may attend the meeting and ask to be Nominated. The District 5 Delegates are Jim Rice, Carolyn Rice, Stacia Long, Bill Hatcher, Marcia Hatcher, James Cook, Jamie Cook and Steve Leete. There are no other applications or documents to fill out for nomination. Once a candidate is selected, the name is then forwarded to the Governor for appointment. The successful candidate will serve for 2018, but to serve the full remainder of the 5th District term (2019 and 2020), a person is required to run during 2018 and win election to the position. Meaning, the person selected at the Convention would have to run and win to serve beyond 2018, and could also face opponents in the election. Please contact Seward County Republican Party Chairman Nathan A. McCaffrey by email [email protected] with any questions. Proposed Convention Rules and the Agenda are also available by request.
