Cline Says Redskin Athletes on Right Track

The Liberal track and field team opens Friday at 4:30 at Winfield. Liberal competes with Winfield, Ark City, Derby, El Dorado, Campus, Wichita Trinity, Kapaun, and Newton.
The Redskin boys finished fifth last year under coach Caleb Cline who enters his second year as head coach. Trenton Hammond returns for his sophomore year after winning state in the 300 hurdles as a freshman. Justin McPhail returns to competition after missing most of the football season and all of the wrestling season. McPhail was a foot away from winning gold in the discus competition last year. Adebayou Braimah and Ayodale Braimah will aid Liberal’s hurdles and relay teams. Isaac Gallegos will bolster the sprints and relays. Erik Minjarez, Fidel Munoz, and Angel Viveros lead the long distance runners. Nolan Larkin and Brad Denten bolster Liberal’s throws. There are about 63 boys out for track.
The LHS girls have more quality than quantity with about 29 out for the sport. That number still almost triples the number out for track two years ago. Mackenzie Wright leads the girls in the jumps while runners like Kim Francis, Destyni Lucero, Mercy Perez, Alexandria Chandler, and Holly Hinkle lead the runners. Jai Chapman is sure to burst onto the scene as she chose to run track rather than play softball as she did last year. Click on the audio icon to hear an interview with Caleb Cline.
