KSCB News - May 15, 2013 8:19 am

The Liberal City Commission met Tuesday evening at 6:30pm for their regular meeting in the City Commission Chambers. Among the items on the agenda, the Commission accepted the designation from the Kaboom! Corporation as being a 2013 Playful City USA. This designation allows the City of Liberal to apply for grants from Kaboom! for additional funds for playground equipment. The Commission heard a presentation from the Truancy Program organizers, and students, and made several board appointments. Sara Carillo was appointed to the Diversity Council Board, Kevin Frauli to the Planning and Zoning Board, and Mike Aichle to the Parks and Rec. Board. The Commission also staggered the terms of the other Parks and Rec Board Members, so as not all terms expired at the same time. Commissioners approved the Vacation of a Utility Easement at the Airport, and approved the purchase of a 15 foot mower for the Airport. The mower was purchased from Keating Tractor in the amount of $12,690.00. Other purchases approved were for the Police Department for Bullet Resistant Concealable Vests for $5625 of which half of that amount will be reimbursed to the City through a grant, and Tasers for the Department in the amount of $5760.00. The commission approved the purchase of Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors for the Safe At Home Program from Mead Lumber for $6196.00 and approved an additional $30,000.00 for the First Time Home Buyers Incentive Program. Commissioners also added a 7th parcell of land in the Edwards and Light Park area to the Rural Housing Incentive District Program. The next regular meeting of the Liberal City Commission is set for May 28th.
