1: Meade Health Fair 8a-1p
The Meade County Health Department and the Artesian Valley Health System are sponsoring their 26th annual Health Fair to be held on Saturday April 5, 2013, from 8:00am – 1:00 pm at Meade District Hospital in Meade. A complete blood profile, with a CBC, CRP, and thyroid screen, will be available for $30, and for the men, a PSA, a blood screening for prostrate cancer, will be offered for an additional $15. This year we are also offering the Testosterone level & Vitamin B12 level for $10 each. Fasting is recommended, but not required, for the blood profile. Available again this year will be DEXA, a Bone Densitometry screening for $50 and the BioZ, a cardiac function screening for $30. A Bone Marrow Donor Drive will also take place during the Health Fair. Call for more information. Tetanus/Diphtheria updates will be available, for $20, and the Tetanus/Diptheria/Pertussis for $35. H. Pylori, checking for peptic ulcers, will also be offered this year for $25.00. All other screenings are free. Pre-registration is available this year for those who would like to expedite the check-in process beginning March 17. Pre-registration can only be done in person at the Meade District Hospital. 2: Guymon's Annual Spring Cleanup
The City of Guymon is hosting their bi-annual Community-wide clean up Saturday, April 5. This event is part of a national community beautification effort known as the Great American Cleanup, hosted statewide by Keep Oklahoma Beautiful and sponsored by Devon. All residents are encouraged to participate, be it an individual or group project. Past projects include litter removal from a park or schoolyard, trash removal along streets, transferring illegally dumped items from alleys and other public areas, but also include planting trees, flowers or shrubs, painting park picnic areas or public youth facilities. Trash bags will be available free of charge to those who wish to participate in this year’s event. In addition to trash bags, roll off dumpsters and a trailer for household hazardous materials and electronics waste will be in the parking lot of the Seward County Receptacle site, located on 12th Street at 823 N.E. 12th. The trailer for household haz-mat and e-waste will only be there from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 5. The City of Guymon Transfer Station will be open for free disposal of trash, debris, and large loads from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on this day. “This will be the first Saturday to be open for the summer,” Sanitation Director Karen Rice said. “After the community clean up, we will then be open Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.” Use of the Transfer Station is free to all Guymon residents on this day, and they must have an ID and a utility bill for proof of residency, Rice said. “Also, there is a disposal limit of four tires per person.” After the clean-up, the transfer station will still provide free use to residents for disposal of loads up to 1,000 lbs. 3: Concealed Carry Class 8am
Seward County Community College/Area Technical School will offer a Concealed Carry class through Business & Industry from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., in SU214 E/W, 1801 N. Kansas in Liberal. The cost is $100 per class and is the mandatory training that is required to carry a concealed handgun. Students must bring a Kansas driver’s license to class. Lunch is not included. 4: Saturday Night LIVE 7pm
Southwest Friends of the Arts presents a variety show, Saturday Night LIVE! Saturday, April 5th at 7pm. It will be held at Memorial Hall ,200 E. 6th Street, Hugoton, Kansas. Tickets are $5.00 for adults, under 12 yrs, $3.00, under 3 yrs free, must be accompanied by adult. Tickets available at Yardmaster in Hugoton or at the door.
