Bee Jays Win League Opener

The Liberal Bee Jays continued their winning ways on Tuesday as they opened up Jayhawk League play with a quick 5-1 victory over Dodge City at Brent Gould Field. The game lasted just 2 hours and 8 minutes.

The Bee Jays got on the board first scoring one in the third inning and one in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead. The A’s of Dodge City put up a one in the fifth, before the Bee Jays scored two in the bottom half of the fifth, and one in the sixth.

Will Alvis who is a returner to this year’s Bee Jay’s team and who plays college baseball at Louisiana Tech led the way for Liberal earning the win after pitching seven innings, giving up just one run off of three hits. Nick Youper and Brandon Ward-Hersee came in and pitched an inning apiece of shutout ball.

At the plate the Bee Jays were led by Richard Bohlken of Lubbock Christian who went 2-3 with 2 RBI’s. Kelby Thomlinson of Seward County broke out of his hitting slump going 3-4 with two singles and a double. Joe Vaskas of Concordia College also went 2-3 with a walk.

Dodge City drops to 4-1 overall and 0-1 in the Jayhawk League. The Bee Jays stay perfect improving to 5-0 overall, and 1-0 in the League.

Liberal will have Wednesday and Thursday off before hosting Derby on Friday at 7 p.m. The game will air on 1270 AM and right here on kscbnews.net. The Dugout Show will begin at 6:45 p.m.
