Bee Jays Walk the Nine in Loss at Dodge City

Brock Kappelmann - June 27, 2018 7:14 am

The hits were even at 10-10.  However Liberal Bee Jay pitchers walked nine while BJ hitters walked twice. Liberal committed three errors and DC didn’t have any.  Dodge City hitters doubled five times on the way to beating Liberal 10-4 Tuesday night at Cavalier Field in Dodge City.

The Bee Jays scored first as Dane Simon and Tom Lichty singled and Brett Vosik doubled off the wall in right center to drive home Simon to make it 1-0.  But when Liberal lined out into a double play, the momentum of the game changed.  The A’s touched off BJ starter Zach Zeller for two in the first and three in the second.  Chase Hacker launched his third homer of the summer over the wall in left.  The A’s scored five in the seventh to blow the game wide open.  Hacker doubled home a run in the ninth and Blake Brewster hit a sac fly to make it 10-4.  Liberal received mixed results on the mound.  Zeller pitched two innings allowing five runs.  Josh Zanger worked three scoreless innings.  Anders Davidson went 1 and 2/3 allowing five and Bailey Cantu worked 1 and 1/3 scoreless.

Liberal loses their first meeting of the year against the A’s.  They fall to 14-8 overall and 12-7 in the Jayhawk while Dodge City is 7-6 in the Jayhawk.  Liberal’s next four games will be against the A’s including their next meeting Saturday night at 7 at Brent Gould Field.  Billy’s Ayr Lanes is the buyout sponsor.  The game airs on 1270 and kscbnews.net with the Dugout Show at 6:45.
