Bee Jays Bullpen Steps Up in Win

The Liberal Bee Jays defeated the Colorado Sox 4-3 Thursday night at Brent Gould Field. The BJ’s used four pitchers to hold the Sox in check. The BJ’s got off to a decent start offensively scoring one in the first and two in the third to lead 3-1. The Sox would plate two in the fourth to tie the game. Liberal scored one in the fifth. Seward’s Austin Terhune from Perryton pitched the first four innings. Tennessee’s Dylan Hochevar and San Diego’s Matt Hauser pitched two scoreless innings and Crowder’s Don Lisi pitched a scoreless ninth for the save. Four Seward County players and one former Saint played for the Sox. Mikel Huston, Luke Campbell, Austin Roff, and Todd Glime played in the game. The two teams meet again Friday night at 7:00 PM at Brent Gould Field. Seward’s Bobby Doran of the BJ’s and Seward’s Corey Collins of the Sox are expected to pitch against each other tonight. First National Bank is the buyout sponsor. The game will not be on the radio. Saturday and Sunday night’s games at Hays will air on Talkradio 1270 and kscb.net.

The BJ’s lost a player yesterday to the MLB draft. Louisiana Tech’s Chris Kersten went in the 39th round to the Cleveland Indians. The Medicine Lodge graduate hit .372 with 18 homers and 58 RBI’s. The 6’4″ 230 pound senior hit .341 with four homers and 32 RBI’s for the Bee Jays last summer. Seward’s Bobby Doran who signed at Texas Tech was selected in the 36th round by the Pirates. Liberal’s Cameron Monger from New Mexico was selected in the 27th round by the Padres. Former BJ Thomas Keeling of Oklahoma State went in the 20th round to the Yankees. Keeling pitched for the BJ’s late last season.
