The 2011 version of the Seward County Saints Baseball team hit the turf on Brent Gould Field for the first time this season this afternoon, splitting a double header with the Northeastern Plainsmen from Sterling, Colorado . Seward led into the 4th inning 3-1 but the Plainsmen would get 3 unearned runs after Saints miscues in the field to go up 4-3. Seward would tie it up in the bottom of the inning but their offense would shut down after that as Northeastern scored 2 in the 7th to come away with the 6-4 win. Steve Polito started his Seward career with a pair of hits at the top of the lineup while Jon Mestas, Kyle Henke, and Tyler Hill each had RBI knocks in the game as well. The Saints defense let them down in game one as they committed 5 errors leading to 5 unearned runs in the 6-4 win for the Plainsmen.

In game two the Saints would get revenge. Polito and Mestas would leadoff the Seward half of the 1st with walks and both would later come around to score on an RBI double off the left field fence by Henke to make it 2-0. The teams would trade runs in the 2nd and Seward would get one in the 4th and lead 4-1 going to the 5th. In the Saints half of the 5th they would send 10 batters to the plate as RBI triples from JT Bean and Jordan Dallalio would highlight a 6 run inning to put the home team up 10-1. After Logan Hall blanked the Plainsmen for the 4th straight inning Seward would get another run in the 6th and would force the run rule as they took home the win 11-1. Henke would lead the offensive attack, going 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles while Polito and Brittain Ibbotson would also have multi hit games in the win. Hall was back to his 2010 form when he was an All-Conference pick on the hill for the Saints as a freshman, tossing his 7th complete game of his Seward County career while allowing just 5 hits and 1 unearned run in the win.

The two teams will lock up again Sunday at Brent Gould Field looking to find a series winner. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1:00.
