Are You Ready For Some Goofy Golf?

KSCB News - September 3, 2014 4:42 pm

Are you ready for some Goofy Golf? The High Plains Pizza Hut 9th Annual Goofy Golf Tournament for the Seward County United Way will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6, at Grif Golf at Bluebonnet Park. In addition to a chance to win trophies or the hole-in-one prize, participants also will be treated to a free hamburger or hot dog meal with chips and a drink.

“High Plains Pizza Hut is our new tournament sponsor this year,” said Kay Burtzloff, director of the Seward County United Way. “We really appreciate their support and hope that people will come out and enjoy a great night of miniature golf and a free hamburger or hot dog meal. I really admire how High Plains Pizza Hut supports many worthwhile causes in our community and their commitment really shows.”

The cost of the tournament is $2 for a two-youth team, $3 for a youth/adult team and $4 for a two-adult team. Youth players are 15 years old or younger. “Teams to don’t have to register ahead of time, they just have to show up the day of the tournament,” Burtzloff said. First, second and third place trophies will be giving in the three categories. “You don’t have to be on a team to play, just to be in competition for a trophy.”

On certain holes, the golfers will have special challenges. On one hole, they have to golf standing on one leg. At another hole, they will be using swimming noodles for their golf clubs. There will be five special Challenge holes in the tournament. One hole will be designated as the "hole-in-one" prize hole. The first golfer to score a hole-in-one will get a $25 Chamber Gift Certificate.

“Everyone seems to have a lot of fun at our tournament and it’s a great way to showcase the facility. Kids Inc. has been one of our agencies for years and this is their way of supporting United Way and what it does for them,“ she said. "We wanted to keep the cost of playing low this year so that families can feel free to come out, have a great time and not spend a lot of money."

Banner sponsors for this year’s tournament include Sunflower Bank, Southern Office Supply, Dr. Mark Kaminski, El Kan Drug, Southern Pioneer Electric, Black Hills Energy, Bank of Beaver City, Hay Rice & Associates, First National Bank, Spencer Browne’s Coffee House, Stepping Stone Shelter, and United Cerebral Palsy. Hole sponsors include Liberal Inn, Edward Jones – Greg Bird, Dr. Dora Davis, Staats Jewelry, Jerry Harding State Farm Insurance, Scantlin’s Furniture, Liberal Office Machines, Southern Office Supply, Seward County Community College/Area Technical School, Don and Judy Owens Community Bank, Liberal Animal Hospital and Flowers by Girlfriends.

"I hope that everyone supports our sponsors the way they have supported us. They’ve made it possible for us to have a fun fundraiser where we can give out trophies and prizes and still raise money for our 26 agencies."
