Ivan L. McGee

Johnson, KS
Ivan McGee, age 91, of Johnson, Kansas died Friday, April 25, 2014 at Stanton County Long Term Care Unit in Johnson, Kansas. He was born February 10, 1923 in Richfield, Morton County, Kansas, the son of John Landon and Viola Jane (Hall) McGee. He was raised on the McGee homestead along with his five siblings and graduated from Richfield High School. Ivan was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II. In 1943, he married Mary Lee Taylor and made his home in Richfield, Kansas, where he farmed and ranched. To this union, four boys were born. Ivan was active in his community, served on the Richfield School Board, played on the Richfield baseball team and was an enthusiastic supporter of the Boy Scouts. He was a member of the Richfield Methodist Church. Ivan retired from farming in 1982, moved to Manter, Kansas, and met Arleta Faye Crow; to this union, they had six kids. He remained living in Manter until her death in 2000. He lived the remainder of his years in Johnson, Kansas. Ivan’s interests were horses, farming, baseball, and shooting pool. Survivors include one sister, Mildred Calvin of Ulysses, Kansas; sons, Edward McGee and wife Casey of Claude, Texas, Mark McGee of Montana, Jeff Crow and wife Wilma of Ocilla, Georgia, Tony Crow and wife Niki of Marienthal, Kansas, Eddie Crow and wife Layla of Grand Island, Nebraska; daughters, Melissa Bolivar and husband Jose of Manter, Kansas, Susie Crow of Manter, Kansas, Maria Crow and Marc Harmon of Ulysses, Kansas; 25 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren. Ivan was preceded in death by Mary Lee McGee and Arleta Crow; sons, Phil McGee and Hal McGee; brothers, Harree McGee and Charlie McGee; sisters, Dorothy Thrasher and Louise Bonham; grandchildren, Todd Crow and Mallari Harmon. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Garnand Funeral Chapel in Johnson, Kansas with Pastor Mary Courtney officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by Johnson VFW Post #3684. Memorial contributions may be given to the Stanton County Long Term Care Unit or donor’s choice in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 715, Johnson, Kansas 67855.
