Edith M. Ferguson
Garnand Funeral Home
Elkhart, KS
Our beautiful, gracious, and spirited Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and Great-Great-Grandmother, Edith M. Ferguson, went to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, May 11 2013, at the age of 93 after a short illness. Edith, the oldest of three daughters, was born on March 12, 1920, in Bucklin, Missouri, to John Dewey and Mary Jane Davolt. Her mother, daddy and sister, Emma Jane Davolt Ferguson, preceded her in death and she is survived by her sister, Joy Bryan of Lamar, Colorado. Edith’s family moved to the tri-state area from Missouri when she was three years old. She married her high school sweetheart, Charlie Ferguson, on May 21, 1939. Edith graduated from Elkhart High School as the valedictorian of her class in 1940. Edith and Charlie farmed in Cimarron County and would have been married 74 years on May 21. They had seven children. Timothy preceded her in death. She is survived by her loving husband, Charlie, her children, Donnie and Karen Ferguson, Connie and Pat Bryan, Elva and Bob Ponder, Elaine and Stan Louthan, Charles and Callie Ferguson, and Monty Ferguson. She is also survived by Blaine and Sue Ferguson (Emma Jane’s son whom she helped mother after Emma Jane’s death) and their children Kent and Eric. Her grandchildren who will miss her dearly are Donna Boaldin, Pamela Adair, Jeffrey Ferguson, Amy Ferguson, Stephanie Ferguson, Scott Bryan, Steven Bryan, Shawna Loyd, Robert, Brian and Jonathan Ponder and Melissa Lane, Kim Umland and Shane Louthan, Kevin and Keenan Ferguson and Cynthia Gentry, Dusty Ferguson and Tara Phillips, Joshua and Jessica Ferguson. She is also survived by 49 great-grandchildren (50th expected in September) and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Edith came to know Christ as her Savior in a revival meeting in Sturgis when she was a young girl and was baptized in the First Baptist Church in Elkhart, Kansas. At the time of her death, she was a member of Emanuel Baptist Church in Rolla, Kansas, where she and Charlie taught in the Awana’s program for more than 15 years. For many years, she was an active member of the Gloomchaser’s Club in Cimarron County and was known for her prize-winning bread and her gracious hospitality. Edith cherished her time with her Lord, her husband, her family, her church family, and her camping friends. She loved her yard and garden and, just before her death, was making plans for new things to add to her flower garden. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Elkhart, Kansas with Pastor Henry McGuire and Pastor David Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at the Elkhart Cemetery. The family will receive guests Tuesday, May 14, 2013 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in the fireside room. The family requests memorials be given to Emanuel Baptist Church of Rolla in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 854, Elkhart, KS 67950.
