Cherie Vadnais Stanton, age 87, of Johnson, Kansas died Monday, April 11, 2011 at Pioneer Manor in Hugoton, Kansas. She was born March 25, 1924 in Silver Bow, County, Montana the daughter of William and Gladys (Boller) Skelton.
Cherie, a homemaker, graduated from high school in Butte, Montana. Before moving to Stanton County October 15, 1979 she lived in New Mexico where she enjoyed riding horses and was a member of the sheriff’s posse. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, camping, and being outdoors. She married Robert Richardson in 1952 in Los Alamos, New Mexico. They later divorced. In March 1979 she married Elliott Stanton in Ft. Collins, Colorado.
Survivors include one son, Peter Richardson and wife Jane of Garden City, Kansas; step-son, Mark Stanton of Ft. Collins, Colorado; step-daughter, Diane Williamson and husband Dan of Modesto, California; one grandson, Travis Richardson of Salina, Kansas; two step-grandsons, Brian Pomeroy of Modesto, California, and Todd Stanton; one step great-granddaughter, Elisia Pomeroy of Modesto, California, and sister-in-law, Donna Stanton of Johnson, Kansas.
She was preceded in death be her parents, husband Elliott, and one sister.
A private graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson, Kansas. A public memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be given to Pioneer Manor in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 715, Johnson, Kansas 67855.
