Miguel Hernandez
Ulysses, KS

Miguel Hernandez, age 58, of Ulysses, Kansas died Friday, March 25, 2011 at Del Sol Medical Center in El Paso, Texas.  He was born September 20, 1952 in Vaqueteros Del Tule Chihuahua Mexico, the son of Jose Garcia and Luisa Hernandez.

 

Miguel married Emma Luna in 1970.  They moved to Ulysses and Johnson, Kansas and for 30 years did migrant farming.  For the last two years, Miguel has lived in El Paso, Texas where he married Rosalva Mendez on January 5, 2011.  He is a member of the Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses, Kansas.  Miguel will be remembered for being a hard worker, showing his grandchildren building skills in many different areas and having fun while doing so, and last but not least; for being the best father, grandfather, brother, and uncle in the world. 

   

He is survived by six daughters, Barbara Atayde of Kansas City, Missouri, Maria Mendoza, of Belton, Missouri, Haida MacLaren of Chase, Kansas, Olga Delgado of Ulysses, Kansas, Anna Santoyo of New Mexico, Sherry Montoya of Corpus Christi, Texas; his wife, Rosalva of El Paso, Texas; siblings, Marcino Hernandez, of Garden City, Kansas, Anastacio Montanez of Ulysses, Kansas Catalino Olivas of Denver, Colorado, Estefana Garmon of Guymon, Oklahoma, Amalio Olivas of Ulysses, Kansas, Paula Montelongo of Guymon, Oklahoma, Maria Heredia of Ulysses, Kansas, Pablo Olivas of Ulysses, Kansas, Jesus Garcia, Judith Garcia, Omero Garcia, and Juan Garcia all of Mexico, and other half brothers in Mexico; 20 special grandchildren and six special great grandchildren. 

 

Miguel is preceded in death by his parents.

 

Vigil service and will be held Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at 8:00 PM and funeral mass will be held Wednesday, March 30 at 10:00 AM both at the Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses, Kansas with Reverend Trong Binh Tran officiating.  Internment will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery.  Friends may call Tuesday, March 29, 2011 from 11:00 AM until 5:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.  Memorial contributions may be given to the Miguel Hernandez memorial fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS  67880.
