Lena Anderson
Garnand Funeral Home
Hugoton, KS

Lena May Anderson of Hugoton, Kansas passed from mortality into eternity on August 11, 2014.  She was born October 1, 1912 in Willow, Oklahoma, the first daughter of Curtis Edward Moore and Nettie Hammons Moore.

Lena’s early childhood was with her parents in Sayar and Devol, Oklahoma.  Upon her father’s passing they moved to Borger, Texas to obtain work during the oil boom days and resided with family there.  Lena worked with her mother in a boarding house in the late 1920’s until her mother’s death.  She eventually met Owen while he was working in the oil fields in Borger through one of Owen’s brothers.

Lena was united in marriage to Owen E. Anderson on December 21, 1931 in Guymon, Oklahoma.  They made their home in the Moscow, Kansas area.  Their early married life consisted of working with the G.W. Anderson family, raising livestock and farming.  Family was a valued necessity during those years.  Raising children and creating a farming life was impossible without God’s help and the help of each family member.  Times and work were hard and everyone in the community helped one another in order to survive.

God was gracious to Lena’s family.  She is survived by her five children, Christine (George) Massey of Valley Center, Kansas; Wanda (Richard) Kramer of Amarillo, Texas; Edward (Arvella) Anderson of Amarillo, Texas; Frieda (Edwin) Freisburg of Caney, Kansas and Vernon (Tina) Anderson of Hugoton, Kansas; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 21 great-great-grandchildren.  We are continuing the legacy of love and family she has created.  With God’s help, we will persevere and pass on that love she gave to all of us, to our wonderful families and all who surround us.

Lena was preceded in death by her husband, Owen E. Anderson; her brother, David Waymond Moore; three sisters, Nina Lily Moore McConchie, Ada Vivien Moore Fellers, and Nettie Ruth Moore Chaffin; three half-brothers, Jack Beadle, Frank Beadle and Delbert Beadle; and granddaughter, Cynthia Kay Anderson.  She was the last living of all of her initial family members.

Suffice to say that much has been left out of this obituary.  When one becomes a centurion as Lena has, a hundred plus years of toil, pain and love is impossible to put in a few small paragraphs.  So, maybe you can somewhat imagine… say from October the 1st 1912 to August the 11th 2014 and then read between these lines.  There are many tears of love stored there…..

Graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at the Hugoton Cemetery in Hugoton, Kansas.  Friends may call Friday, August 15, 2014 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Hugoton.  Memorial contributions may be given to the Pioneer Manor or the Senior Citizens Activity Center in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 423 S Main, Hugoton, KS  67951.
