Liberal picked the right time to dial it up defensivelyin a 45-40 win over Great Bend Friday night in the Big House. The Liberal Lady Redskins trailed 34-25 mid way through the third quarter before a flurry of steals and layups helped Liberal cut that lead to one just before the end of the third quarter and take the lead 37-35 with 4:23 remaining in the game. The game would see-saw until the Lady Skins broke through with a 43-39 lead with 2:25 to play. Justice Norah scored 23 on a gimpy leg while Melissa Williams added 10. Liberal trailed at the half 25-19. Liberal head coach Shane Stout says that was an impressive second half. "I'm really pleased with that second half," Stout said. "The first half wasn't bad. In the second half we showed great intensity and then when we got the lead, we did a really nice job of milking the game out. I really am proud of the girls." Stout also credited the defensive effort of Kayla Varnes who scored six points as well. Stout also thanked LHS trainer Steve Zimmerman who helped Norah play with a calf injury. Liberal is 9-5 and 2-2 in the WAC while Great Bend falls to 5-10 overall and 0-4 in the WAC. Liberal has won three of the last four against the Lady Panthers. Liberal hosts Guymon Tuesday night at 6 PM on Talkradio 1270 and kscbnews.net.
