48th Annual Cowchip Celebration Held In Beaver OK

The 48th Annual World Championship Cowchip Throw was held in Beaver Oklahoma, on a warm Saturday afternoon. The annual throwing competition culminated a week full of festivities.

Saturday morning started a with Kiddie Parade,then a huge downtown parade. The attention then turned to the fairgrounds. There was a carnival, commercial and craft fair, entertainment and plenty of food throughout the entire Beaver County Fairgrounds.

The World Championship Throw started at 3:00pm after check presentations were made to the 7 fire departments that serve Beaver County. Funds were raised by the Chamber of Commerce and donations at last Saturday’s Antique Tractor Pull.

In the Mens Division, Jon Elfers of Beaver took 1st Place with a toss of 151′ 4″ followed by Drew Russell in 2nd with Garrett Nichols in 3rd.

In the Womens Division, Terri Pratt had the farthest throw at 120′ 3″. In second was Dana Martin followed by Laurie Pratt in third.

In the VIP Division, Liberal Mayor Joe Denoyer took first place, while Oklahoma State Representative Casey Murdoch came in second.

In the Team Competition, the Blue Sage team claimed top honors with a combined toss for the four members of 382′ 0″, followed by Tex Okie Twisters in second. In third was The Beaver Fire Department.

Once again the Beaver Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the City of Beaver, and its many sponsors, put on a wonderfully organized, fun event for the entire family
